The Howland Public Library is pleased to present, Here on Planet Earth, an exhibition of photographs by members of The Beacon Photography Group. The exhibit will be on view in The Community Room Exhibit Space from June 10th – July 2nd, 2017. A Second Saturday artists’ reception will he held on June 10th from 5-7 pm.
For the Beacon Photographer’s fifth exhibition the group has chosen the theme,”Here on Planet Earth.” Curated by Tom Conroy, Jean Noack and Jon Slackman, the exhibit explores the planet we all share, our relationship to this planet, and their visions as photographers about this relationship. Featuring works by several members of the photo group, the show will allow viewers the opportunity to reflect on their own relationship and their own perspective on our mother planet. “It will offer a reminder of the awesomeness, diversity, and complexity of nature, and of the need to work towards protecting our planet” says group member Tom Conroy.
The Beacon Photography Group was formed in 2013 by local photographers, Tom Conroy and Michael Bogdanffy-Kriegh. What began as a small virtual community on facebook has grown to over 300 members. As the group expanded, Jean Noack and Jon Slackman joined their administrative team. The group now hosts face-to-face gatherings, photo walks and exhibitions. The photographers in the group range from people just beginning to explore the craft and amateur enthusiasts to fine artists and seasoned professionals.
